The Texas Rangers and left-hander Martin Perez agreed to a one-year, $4-million contract, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Perez, 30, spent the first seven years of his career with the Rangers, authoring a 4.63 ERA and 4.44 FIP over 761 1/3 innings, making 128 starts and 13 relief appearances.
He most recently had a two-year stint with the Boston Red Sox, posting a 4.65 ERA and 4.84 FIP while making 34 starts and 16 relief appearances.
For the Rangers, this move marks the resumption of a very busy offseason that started with the club landing Corey Seager and Marcus Semien on nine-figure deals prior to the lockout.
While it’s been a somewhat transformative offseason already for Texas, the rotation remains an issue. Perez and December acquisition Jon Gray join a staff that includes Dane Dunning, Taylor Hearn, and A.J. Alexy.
