The Milwaukee Brewers and veteran outfielder Andrew McCutchen agreed to a contract, sources tell ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The 35-year-old spent the previous three seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The deal’s terms aren’t known.

McCutchen returns to the division he enjoyed most of his career success. He earned all five of his All-Star appearances, won an NL MVP, and claimed all four of his Silver Slugger awards over a nine-year stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He’s no longer challenging for hardware, but McCutchen has become a key role player. He hit .222/.334/.444 with 27 homers and six steals over 144 games last year while playing corner outfield.

With the Brewers, McCutchen will likely get some playing time in right or left field when either Christian Yelich or Hunter Renfroe need a day off. He could also potentially fill in at center for Lorenzo Cain. Otherwise, his at-bats will come from the NL’s new designated hitter spot, which could be occupied by Rowdy Tellez as well.
