The Philadelphia Eagles released six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Fletcher Cox after 10 seasons, the team announced Thursday.

Cox, designated as a post-June 1 release, was set to have $18 million of his salary guaranteed at 4 p.m. ET Thursday, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

However, the door isn’t closed on a potential return as the Eagles and Cox are making progress on a one-year contract that’s set to include $14 million guaranteed, Garafolo reports.

The longtime defensive tackle’s standing with the team has been shaky since last season. Cox reportedly attracted trade interest prior to free agency, and the Eagles aggressively tried moving him before the 2021 trade deadline.

Cox has been a fan favorite in Philadelphia since the club drafted him 12th overall in 2012. He’s recorded 58 sacks and 14 forced fumbles in 156 games (150 starts) for the Eagles. Cox finished the 2021 campaign with 3.5 sacks and ended his run of six consecutive Pro Bowl campaigns from 2015-20.
