The Miami Marlins and outfielder Jorge Soler are in agreement on a three-year contract worth $36 million, a source told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The deal includes an opt-out after the first and second season, Passan reports.

Soler began the 2021 campaign with the Kansas City Royals before a trade to the Atlanta Braves. He played an integral role in the club’s first World Series title since 1995. The slugger hit .300/.391/.800 with three home runs and six RBIs in Atlanta’s six-game triumph over the Houston Astros, taking home World Series MVP.

Soler projects to be the Marlins’ right fielder in 2022 and should form an impressive power-hitting outfield with Avisail Garcia and Jesus Sanchez.

The signing of Soler marks the Marlins’ first big free-agent move since Derek Jeter’s departure as CEO in February.

Soler led the American League with 48 home runs in 2019 while playing for the Royals. He also played for the Chicago Cubs from 2014-16, helping the club end its 108-year World Series drought.

The 30-year-old owns a career .246/.331/.465 slash line with 121 home runs and 343 RBIs in 661 games.
