Although Lamar Jackson has yet to engage with the Ravens in extension talks, the star quarterback made it clear Wednesday that he’s not thinking about leaving the team.
Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said Tuesday that Jackson isn’t ready to sign a new deal even though the club began showing interest in extending him after the 2020 season. The 2019 MVP, who doesn’t have an agent, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He’s set to earn $23 million in base salary.
Bisciotti acknowledged that Deshaun Watson’s new five-year, $230-million deal could impact discussions with Jackson, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec. However, Bisciotti noted what Jackson means to the franchise.
“All I know is that his teammates love him, and the front office loves him,” he said.
Jackson is a likely candidate for the franchise tag next season if he doesn’t sign an extension. The two-time Pro Bowler is aiming to bounce back from a 2021 campaign where he missed time due to an ankle injury.
