The Chicago White Sox traded reliever Craig Kimbrel to the Los Angeles Dodgers for outfielder AJ Pollock, the club announced Friday.

The deal is straight up with no money exchanged, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Kimbrel is set to make $16 million this season, while Pollock will earn $10 million and carries a $10-million player option for 2023 that includes a $5-million buyout.

After losing Kenley Jansen to the Atlanta Braves, eight-time All-Star Kimbrel should slide into the closer’s chair for the Dodgers.

“I don’t think I could be any happier,” Kimbrel said Friday, according to MLB.com’s Juan Toribio. “To come over to a team like this that already expects to win, and I’ll be asked to come in and do my job. It feels really nice.”

Kimbrel, 33, leads all active relievers with 372 career saves. He authored another sterling season in 2021 with the Chicago Cubs and White Sox, posting a 2.26 ERA, 15.08 K/9, and 24 saves in 59 2/3 innings pitched.

“We are thrilled to add a player of AJ Pollock’s caliber to this roster,” White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Friday, according to MLB.com’s Scott Merkin. “We view him as making us better offensively as well as defensively and providing us with some important flexibility as we go through this season, as well as some depth for whatever valleys may lie ahead.”

The one-time All-Star hit .297/.355/.536 with 21 home runs and 69 RBIs in 117 contests with L.A. last season.

The Dodgers reportedly shopped the 34-year-old Pollock in recent weeks, with the Boston Red Sox among the clubs showing interest, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.
