The Detroit Lions selected Michigan pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Hutchinson was widely considered the favorite to be the first player selected for most of the lead-up to the draft before being passed by Travon Walker, whom the Jacksonville Jaguars took with the No. 1 pick Thursday.

The Michigan standout set the team’s single-season sack record with 14 last season. He finished second to Bryce Young for the Heisman Trophy. Hutchinson was also a first-team All-Big Ten selection and earned the Ted Hendricks Award for the nation’s top defensive end.

Hutchinson – born in Dearborn, Michigan – gives the rebuilding Lions a cornerstone defensive piece that encapsulates head coach Dan Campbell’s hard-nosed mentality. The pass-rusher was lauded for his rare work ethic and leadership qualities while with the Wolverines.

Scouting profile: Aidan Hutchinson

Hutchinson didn’t make many friends on the field in 2021. He spent the majority of the campaign dominating tackles and driving quarterbacks into the ground as the man behind Michigan’s revitalization. Now, he’s looking to translate that to the next level, and there’s a good chance he hears his name called first overall come draft night. Arguably the most NFL-ready pass-rusher, Hutchinson is poised to make an impact from Day 1 and be the face of an NFL franchise for years to come. The 6-foot-7 pass-rusher comes equipped with lightning-quick hands, a never-ending motor, and a variety of moves to get to the quarterback.
