The Washington Capitals inked forward Dylan Strome to a one-year deal worth $3.5 million, the team announced Thursday.

Strome, 25, became an unrestricted free agent when the Chicago Blackhawks opted not to tender him a qualifying offer, which would have been worth $3.6 million.

The Ontario native ranked third on the Blackhawks this past season with a career-high 22 goals, 17 of which came at even strength. He logged 48 points in 69 games while averaging 17:26 of ice time per contest. He can line up at either center or wing and could potentially play up the middle as the Capitals are dealing with the long-term absence of veteran center Nicklas Backstrom.

Strome was a healthy scratch at times during the 2021-22 season, and his name frequented the rumor mill all campaign long.

Selected third overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2015, Strome has 170 points in 273 career games.
