The San Antonio Spurs are extending up-and-coming wing Keldon Johnson on a four-year, $80-million contract, his agents told The Athletic’s Shams Charania on Friday.
The 22-year-old will play through his rookie deal’s fourth year before his extension kicks in.
Johnson has spent all three seasons of his NBA career with the Spurs after being selected with the No. 29 pick in the 2019 draft out of Kentucky.
After playing just 17 games as a rookie, Johnson made a sizable leap as a sophomore before breaking out last season. He averaged 17 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while making nearly 40% of his 3-pointers in 2021-22.
With the Spurs set to undergo a rebuild following the trade of Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks, Johnson figures to be a large part of the team’s nucleus moving forward.
