The New York Giants announced Wednesday that they’re bringing back their classic blue uniforms for a pair of legacy games this season.

New York will wear the throwback unis at home against the Chicago Bears on Oct. 2 and Washington Commanders on Dec. 4. The uniform includes the return of the navy helmet with a raised wordmark on the side, as well as the solid scarlet red stripe, classic numbers, and side decals.

The Giants originally wore those uniforms from 1980-99 and won two Super Bowl titles in that span. In the 1986-87 season, New York beat Washington in the NFC Championship Game before topping the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI. The Giants then eliminated the Bears in the division round four years later en route to a narrow Super Bowl XXV victory over the Buffalo Bills.

“This era obviously still holds a special place in the hearts of Giants fans,” Giants president John Mara said in a statement. “Our teams during that time featured legendary players, some of the best in our franchise’s history. And these uniforms remind us of what was accomplished through those years. We are thrilled to wear that uniform again.”

New York also announced that its 2022 legacy games will include Super Bowl XXI throwback end zones.
