The Minnesota Twins acquired reliever Michael Fulmer from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long, the teams announced Tuesday.

Fulmer, the 2016 American League Rookie of the Year, has reinvented himself as a solid reliever over the last two campaigns. The right-hander owns a 3.20 ERA, 3.22 FIP, and 1.25 WHIP with 39 strikeouts, 20 walks, and just one homer allowed in 41 outings this season.

The 29-year-old has been excellent against right-handed hitters this season, limiting them to a .401 OPS. By contrast, lefties are hitting .298/.391/.456.

Gipson-Long, 24, has posted a 4.23 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 87 strikeouts and 19 walks across 18 total appearances (17 starts) split between High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita.
