The San Diego Padres weren’t close to finished after adding Josh HaderJuan Soto, and Josh Bell ahead of the deadline.

San Diego acquired utility player Brandon Drury from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for infield prospect Victor Acosta, the teams announced.

Drury, who has one year of arbitration eligibility remaining, is enjoying a career season after joining the Reds on a minor-league deal in the offseason. The 29-year-old is hitting .274/.335/.520 with 20 homers and 59 RBIs across 385 plate appearances.

He’ll fit in alongside fellow multi-positional talents Jurickson Profar and Jake Cronenworth. Drury’s primary positions are third and second base, but he’s also made nine appearances at first this year and has additional experience at shortstop and both corner outfield spots.

“The Padres have a great team. Looking forward to trying to win a ring,” Drury told Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer. He added, “I can’t thank Cincinnati enough.”

Acosta, 18, is primarily a shortstop but has played some second base as a professional. The Dominican is hitting .243/.346/.360 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 32 games with the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League Padres this season. He was ranked as San Diego’s No. 11 prospect by Baseball America.
