Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz has dealt with accuracy issues at training camp, but head coach Ron Rivera is confident the signal-caller will get his game back on track soon.

“(His accuracy) is a lot better than you give him credit for, just because of the way things happen in practice,” Rivera said Saturday night, according to Sam Fortier of The Washington Post. “There’s a lot of little nuances that we see and that we look at and get to review. Yeah, there are some inaccuracies, but it’s nothing that we are overly concerned about.”

Wentz has faced criticism for his inaccuracy at practice, but he’s had success with deep throws, Fortier adds. A video shows Wentz missing some easy throws during Washington’s workout at FedEx Field on Saturday:

Wentz acknowledged he and his offense have room to improve, but he likes where the unit stands ahead of the Commanders’ first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers on Aug. 13.

“Feels good, could definitely get better,” Wentz said. “But it’s still early. We’re only two weeks into camp, and (timing and rhythm) are the things that particularly we’re working on.

“Far from perfect, but it’s fun developing chemistry with those guys.”

Rivera has confirmed that Wentz will play against Carolina.

The 29-year-old passer, who joined Washington this year via trade from the Indianapolis Colts, finished last season with a 62.4% completion rate, up from 57.4% in 2020.
