AEW’s second Blood & Guts match enacted a heavy toll on its participants, as the claret-soaked bout saw the Blackpool Combat Club, Eddie Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz’s brutal triumph over the Jericho Appreciation Society on 29 June.

Amongst the wrestlers hurt in the bout was 2point0’s Matt Menard, who tapped out for the finish. Atop the cage, ‘Daddy Magic’ submitted to Claudio Castagnoli, later claiming he did so to deprive Eddie Kingston of the satisfaction of tapping Chris Jericho out.

Now, Menard has told JOFO In The Ring that he injured his shoulder, labrum, and rotator cuff after getting “dumped on his head” early in the bout. Despite this, he was still able to scale the cage for the finish.

Menard doesn’t think he’ll need surgery on his shoulder, which is behind rehabilitated and treated with stem cell injections.

Said Menard (h/t Fightful):

“June 29, Detroit, Michigan, Blood & Guts, big cage match. Two rings. Hell of an ordeal. Very early on in that match, I kind of get dumped on my head by Santana. It wasn’t pretty. Ended up actually, tearing parts of my shoulder, my labrum, my rotator cuff. If you’re wondering, ‘Geez, Daddy Magic, early on in the match. Didn’t you climb to the top of the cage to save Chris Jericho? Did you climb to the top of the cage to save Chris Jericho with a torn shoulder, with your shoulder torn to shreds?’ The answer is yes. I’m basically a hero. The good news here, is that it doesn’t look like it’s going to require surgery. We’re rehabbing it, injected some stem cells into the shoulder. The bad news is I will not be able to participate in the event for the IWS.”

Out of action since Blood & Guts II, Menard has nonetheless maintained a steady onscreen presence alongside the rest of the Jericho Appreciation Society, who recently added the newly-turned Anna Jay to their ranks.
