Former All-Star third baseman Alex Rodriguez empathizes with Fernando Tatis Jr.

Rodriguez knows all too well what it feels like to be suspended for violating MLB’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs and was saddened by the news of the San Diego Padres star’s 80-game ban.

“I wasn’t angry. I was heartbroken because to make a mistake at 22 or 23 years old, that’s going to affect you for maybe 60 years,” Rodriguez said Sunday.

MLB suspended Rodriguez for the entire 2014 season after an investigation into his involvement with the controversial Biogenesis clinic, which allegedly provided performance-enhancing substances to major-league players.

The 47-year-old had hoped his missteps would serve as a blueprint for today’s stars to avoid the same pitfalls.

“I was hoping a lot of these young kids learn from my debacle and my mistakes,” Rodriguez said, according to the New York Post’s Jenna Lemoncelli. “I have gone to the lowest ground, I have gone to ground zero.”

Tatis, 23, will miss the remainder of the 2022 campaign and the first 32 games of next season after testing positive for clostebol.
