The New York Jets are open to offers for wide receiver Denzel Mims and plan to grant his trade request, sources told SNY’s Connor Hughes.

On Thursday, Mims informed the Jets he would like to be traded due to frustration over a lack of opportunities amid a crowded receiving corps.

“We feel at this point a trade is our only option since the Jets have repeatedly told us they will not be releasing him,” Mims’ agent Ron Slavin said in a statement to Hughes. “(Jets general manager) Joe Douglas has always done right by Denzel, and we trust that he will make every effort to find him a new home where he can be a contributor.”

The Carolina Panthers called the Jets to inquire about Mims, league sources told The Athletic’s Joe Person. Mims played under Panthers head coach Matt Rhule during his collegiate career at Baylor.

While New York is open to parting with the third-year wideout, a deal will only get done if the franchise feels it’s for equal value, according to Hughes.

Mims has struggled to carve out a role in his two seasons with the Jets. He’s started 11 of his 20 career games but has tallied just 31 receptions for 490 yards. After displaying some promise in his rookie campaign, the 24-year-old caught just eight receptions for 133 yards in 2021.

Corey Davis and Elijah Moore currently lead New York’s receiving group. Mims rounds out a depth chart that also features 2022 first-round selection Garrett Wilson alongside Braxton Berrios and Jeff Smith.
