Boston Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari is out indefinitely after sustaining a meniscus tear in his left knee during Italy’s FIBA World Cup qualifying match Saturday against Georgia, the Italian national team announced Sunday.

As a result, Gallinari will miss the upcoming EuroBasket tournament, which begins Thursday.

The non-contact injury occurred early in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s contest as Gallinari drove to the basket. The former No. 6 overall pick had to be assisted off the court after his left knee appeared to buckle.

Gallinari didn’t suffer any ligament damage during the incident.

Boston signed Gallinari to a two-year, $13.3-million deal this summer. The veteran spent the past two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. He averaged 11.7 points and shot 38.1% from deep over 66 appearances during the 2021-22 campaign.
