The St. Louis Blues signed star forward Jordan Kyrou to an eight-year contract extension carrying an average annual value of $8.125 million Tuesday.

Kyrou, 24, is coming off a breakout season in which he recorded 75 points in 74 games. He has one more year on his current agreement at $2.8 million before the lucrative new deal kicks in.

Fellow young Blues star Robert Thomas signed an extension with the same terms earlier this offseason. He and Kyrou are set to become the club’s highest-paid players in 2023-24, although veterans Ryan O’Reilly and Vladimir Tarasenko will be up for new contracts by then as well.

St. Louis drafted Kyrou 35th overall in 2016. He debuted in the NHL during the 2018-19 season and registered 47 points in 99 career games before establishing himself as a star in 2021-22. Kyrou finished fourth on the Blues in scoring, made his first All-Star Game, and won the fastest skater competition this past season. He added seven goals in 12 playoff games before the Blues were eliminated in the second round.

“I’m so thankful to the Blues organization for putting their trust in me and giving me the opportunity to wear the Blue Note for the foreseeable future,” Kyrou said. “Being able to call St. Louis my home is amazing. I can’t say enough about how much I love the city. And to the best fans in the league, I can’t thank you enough for always showing me love and support.”

The Blues are set to open training camp next week and will begin their regular season Oct. 15 against the new-look Columbus Blue Jackets.
