Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn quadriceps tendon, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Adams was hurt while trying to sack Russell Wilson in Monday’s win over the Denver Broncos. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said postgame that the team feared the defensive back had suffered a significant injury.

After not missing a game in his first two years in the NFL, Adams has struggled with injuries. He missed two games in his final season with the New York Jets in 2019 before missing nine in his first two campaigns with Seattle.

The loss of Adams is a significant blow to a Seahawks defense that lacks veteran playmakers. The 26-year-old set the NFL’s single-season sack record for a defensive back with 9.5 in 2020.

Adams is in the first season of a four-year, $70.6-million extension signed last summer, which made him the league’s highest-paid safety at the time. He was acquired from the Jets in 2020 for a package that included two first-round picks.

Josh Jones will likely move into the starting lineup for Seattle, while Ryan Neal‘s role could also expand after he stepped in for Adams last season.

The Seahawks are signing cornerback Teez Tabor off the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad after placing Adams on injured reserve.
