Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is open to discussing a contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays and said he would love to spend his entire career with the franchise.

“Since I got to the big leagues, I’ve always felt that way,” the 23-year-old told the Toronto Star’s Gregor Chisholm.

“Especially now when you start feeling the love from the fans and the city. I’ve always said that I would love to play here my entire career. I’m open for any conversation. We’ll see what happens.”

Guerrero isn’t eligible for free agency until 2026, but the slugger is in prime position to be one of the next young players to sign a long-term deal, following in the footsteps of Seattle Mariners rookie sensation Julio Rodriguez and Tampa Bay Rays budding shortstop Wander Franco, among others.

Not only is Guerrero a popular presence in MLB and throughout the city of Toronto, but his ties to the Blue Jays are strong, making a contract extension seem a likely scenario for the two sides.

Toronto signed the Dominican native, who was born in Montreal, Canada, as a 16-year-old international free agent in 2015 before he grew into a superstar. He came through their farm system with the likes of Bo BichetteCavan Biggio, and a slew of others on the Blue Jays’ active roster.

Guerrero, a two-time All-Star, entered Friday hitting .278/.342/.483 with 28 homers and 84 RBIs, which followed a tremendous 2021 campaign where he finished as runner-up for the American League MVP. He’s hit 100 homers and posted a .866 OPS since debuting for the Blue Jays in 2019.
