Dave Meltzer has reported in this week’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the planned main event for WWE Clash At The Castle, emanating from the Principality Stadium at Cardiff, Wales on September 3, 2022, is Roman Reigns Vs. Drew McIntyre.

“The plan for the show as of right now is Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre as the main event,” Meltzer reports, before adding “but if Tyson Fury is part of the show, it could change to him against McIntyre”.

How this impacts WWE’s other large-scale stadium events is unclear, since WWE has not built another act on SmackDown to McIntyre’s level; then again, the brand split is hardly enforced in 2022. It would be strange for WWE to book such a massive and potentially lucrative event, only to job out the home nation (just about) hero and kill the territory, so this might – might – even play host to the biggest title change in all of wrestling.

In news related to the event, ticket sales have failed to meet projections. 30,000 tickets have been sold at time of writing, despite WWE hyping up that 85,000 tickets had been signed up for to investors.

Historically low product interest in the UK, or the effects of the ongoing cost of living crisis?

During the latest installment of the Hall Of Fame podcast, Booker T spoke about the future of the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Cody Rhodes has made it clear he wants that title, and Booker believes that could be done. Even if WWE wants Roman to be champion to possibly face The Rock, this could be done in his opinion.

“Yeah, we talked about that, we talked about Cody may be able to slip in there,” he said. “Then somehow maybe it will be able to flip back before WrestleMania, and we can still do The Rock. But, of course, right now Cody Rhodes coming back and saying, ‘the title that my dad didn’t win,’ it seems like we are going that route and doing something along that route, I don’t know.”

While Booker T believes that it is easy to believe Roman Reigns will be champion for the foreseeable future. “I would not be surprised, I’ll tell you right now, I know Cody what he wants. But, I would not be surprised if Roman had the title for the next two years. Card subject to change,” he said.

Booker T also discussed the future of The Bloodline as a faction in WWE. While he wouldn’t be shocked to see new members added, Booker is not sure if that is needed.

“I am not going to sit here and say I would be surprised if I saw something like that. But, I would not want to just start adding members to The Bloodline. It ain’t broke,” he said. “I was reading I think Naomi was considering, they were considering putting her in The Bloodline at one point. You go, okay, ‘what will that do for The Bloodline? What is that going to bring to The Bloodline?’

“It’s just going to bring another element, is it another element that we need? That’s the question, so, I don’t know. I do know this, there’s enough Samoans out there to where if Roman Reigns and The Bloodline and the family was to find themselves in a predicament to be able to insert certain factors at certain times, I could tell you this, wouldn’t be a bad idea.”

Roman Reigns is five days away from reaching the milestone of 600 days as WWE Universal Champion, and WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff is here for it.

On Sunday, Bischoff praised Reigns for his commitment to staying atop the food chain in WWE.

Ya know what’s so cool about this? The journey. In-ring and out. The commitment, from Roman personally, to @WWE. The real-life journey makes the public one so special.

Bischoff also disputed the notion that WWE hasn’t built anyone up to dethrone Reigns.

The WWE on BT Sport Twitter handle recently asked fans to pick the Superstar they wish to see end The Tribal Chief’s historic reign. The poll listed Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, Gunther, NXT Champion Bron Breakker, Bobby Lashley, RAW Tag Team Champion Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Shinsuke Nakamura and Sheamus as nine potential Superstars to dethrone Reigns from the mountain top.

Speaking of McIntyre, the Scottish Warrior is pushing for a match against Reigns at WWE’s stadium show in the United Kingdom this September.

“I’ve been away from the title for a long time,” McIntyre told BT Sport last week. “Roman’s been so dominant and is doing the best work of his career. We’re on a collision course. It [the U.K. event] is five months away. If somehow we could avoid each other for five months, that would be such a big match. Especially on the U.K. soil, I can’t imagine the atmosphere for that match.”

Fans on social media have been split between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre as the two frontrunners to dethrone Roman Reigns, who is rumored to wrestle The Rock at next year’s WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles.

Brock Lesnar outlasted former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley as well as Austin Theory, AJ Styles, Riddle and Seth Rollins to win the Raw brand’s top strap for the seventh time and tee up a Champion Vs Champion match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38.

‘The Beast’ decimated the entire field apart from ‘The All-Mighty’, who was taken out of the contest due to an injury sustained while in his pod at the hands of a Seth Rollins buckle bomb on Austin Theory into plexi-glass and onto Lashley’s prone frame.

Lesnar entered last in the absence of the Champion and tore through each man with F5s, concluding with one off the top of a Chamber pod on to a Theory that had previously tried to escape from a small hole in the roof.

Brock’s path of rage represented just about the only element of promised chaos from either Chamber match, and delivered a Title-For-Title encounter with ‘The Tribal Chief’ WWE have been speaking into existence for the last few weeks. A ‘Show Of Shows’ match graphic confirmed the inevitable, with the bout set to be the first time both belts have been up for grabs since the 2016 brand split.

John Cena opened tonight’s WWE RAW from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas and called out WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns for a match at SummerSlam.

As noted, Cena made his big WWE return after Sunday’s Money In the Bank main event, which saw Reigns retain his title over WWE Hall of Famer Edge. Cena simply faced off with Reigns and taunted him in his face with the “you can’t see me!” gesture.

Cena kicked off tonight’s RAW and mentioned headlining a huge SummerSlam event and achieving a potential record-breaking 17th world title win, but said he came back to WWE to challenge Reigns, because Reigns is an asshole. WWE tried to censor the line, but fans chanted “asshole!” at Reigns, who was not there.

Cena then cut a promo on Reigns and said he needs to be knocked down a peg. Cena said “this pathetic Roman Reigns Experience” has gone on long enough, and that Reigns is an “arrogant, self-absorbed, over-hyped, over-protected, over-exposed gimmick who’s not as over as he says he is.”

Cena then used loud crowd reactions to show Reigns that the fans will tell you how good you are, if you really are that good. Cena closed the promo by warning that he will be at Friday’s SmackDown on FOX, and can’t wait to see Reigns. The in-ring segment ended with Cena and Riddle having a “Bro! Bro?” exchange as Riddle came out for the six-man opening match, with The Viking Raiders vs. John Morrison and RAW Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Omos.

WWE plans on having The Usos become SmackDown Tag Team Champions by SummerSlam 2021, reports WrestlingNews.co’s Paul Davis.

It was reported last month that Jimmy and Jey would eventually come together under their cousin, Roman Reigns, before winning the belts from a babyface tandem. The straps were held by two heels in Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode at the time, though perma-good guy Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik, havie since taken them.

The Usos faced the Mysterios twice on last week’s episode of SmackDown – and failed to win on both occasions. Davis states that they will keep feuding with Rey and Dominik through SummerSlam, with Jimmy finally buying into Reigns’ grand vision and falling in line.

On Roman, Davis’ source spoke of WWE’s desire to build the Universal Champion into a John Cena/The Rock level force:-

“Obviously, the plan is to build Roman up so fans see him as being on the level of Cena and Rock but this is also about making Jimmy and Jey look strong and we will get there by SummerSlam. This will be a tight-knit unit in a few months.”

Reigns has been linked to a Universal Title defence against Cena at SummerSlam, which goes down in Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, on Saturday 21 August.

Kevin Owens has admitted to not taking much pleasure from his run as WWE Universal Champion, saying he “didn’t take the time to enjoy any of it.”

Interviewed by talkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy, Owens said that he couldn’t enjoy the run as he was too focused on making it as good as he possibly could, admitting that he’d like another reign:

“What I mean the most when I talk about I’d love to have another Universal title run to make things right is for myself. My mindset has changed a lot since I was champion and back then I didn’t take the time to enjoy any of it. I was just too focused on trying to make it good, make it better, make it as good as it can be and I really, really didn’t enjoy it the way I should have.”

KO was Universal Champion from August 2016 to March 2017, when he lost the strap in a 22-second squash defeat to Goldberg at Fastlane. This, understandably, sparked outrage amongst certain sects of the fanbase, though Owens doesn’t feel bad about how he dropped it:

“I don’t really care how it ended. It ended the way it ended and they all have to end at some point. At least it ended for a reason. There was a reason for it ending beyond ‘hey, Owens isn’t doing a good job.’ Because that wasn’t the case. Whether it should have ended that way or not is another discussion altogether.”

A three-time United States Champion since losing the Universal strap, Owens hasn’t held gold since July 2017. His last Universal Title shot was a Last Man Standing loss to Roman Reigns at Royal Rumble 2021.

Here’s what KO had to say on potentially taking the belt back:

“My wife was instrumental in making me realize that. My parents as well, even guys like Shawn Michaels, Triple H and even Vince McMahon himself, they’ve all told me that it seemed like I forgot to enjoy this part of things and if you’re not going to enjoy being the champion, then what are you going to enjoy in this industry? I’d love to be able to get back there just so I can enjoy it properly, but we’ll see. All I can do is do my best to stay in that story and hopefully I get to take it from Roman or somebody else in the future.”

Roman Reigns is currently 247 days into his reign on top, having taken the Universal Title from The Fiend at Payback 2020.

Ahead of WrestleMania 37, Edge spoke with the media talking about WrestleMania and the build-up to it. The topic of part-timers came up, and Edge spoke on the lack of part-timers at this year’s WrestleMania.

“A large segment of our fanbase always says, ‘Part-timers always clog up.’ Well, they aren’t this year, but then you’ll get people complaining that they aren’t there,” Edge pointed out. “You can’t please everybody. It’s just the nature of the beast, but I do think it’s a great opportunity for a lot of talent to really get a chance to step up, and that’s exciting. As a talent, personally before, I was always excited when those guys came back.

“For instance, WrestleMania 18 in Toronto, [Hulk] Hogan – Rock, are you kidding me? I’m excited about that because I’m a fan, and to me, with those guys back, that’s more eyeballs and if I’m not on the show, then I just got to do more to get on the show. I always took that responsibility upon myself, but this year, the chains are off. It’s a fun opportunity to see a Cesaro get the kind of chance he’s getting, to see Matt Riddle and Sheamus. Bobby Lashley, after all of these years get an opportunity to walk into this as WWE Champion at 44, that’s incredible. Then you got Sasha [Banks] and Bianca [Belair] who are breaking boundaries.

“There’s a lot of exciting and fun elements, and it almost feels like, I don’t want to say a rebuilding phase, but it almost feels like, okay, here’s this group, and we’re moving forward now. And for whatever reason, my old butt from the past generation is in on this ride too. That’s super exciting because I want to be on this ride with everybody. That’s why I am showing up every week. That’s why I’m doing the same schedule as everybody else right now because if I’m asked to be in this position, that’s what it entails, and at the end of the day, I love doing this.”

One thing that has been notable from Edge’s return run is his promo work. Edge spoke on his process and why he focuses more on promos more than his creative direction.

“For me, it’s more the promos. I write my promos, and I’m very very hands-on with those because to me, I got to feel it,” Edge described. “And if someone else writes it and I’m just reciting it, I can’t feel it, and this is a different thing than it is to be on a TV or a movie set. You got a script, and it has to follow all these different narratives. Wrestling is different in that regard because you’ve played this one character for 20 years, and no one’s going to know that character more than you because you’ve had to live in that skin for that amount of time. So that’s one thing that I’ve really enjoyed because I love writing.

“You have to find something that Adam can relate to so that Edge can pull these things off and hopefully make it something the audience wants to see or for an audience to go, ‘Okay, that feels different,’ whether it’s the deliver, or the cadence or the intensity. Sometimes in a promo, my face gets beat red, and I’m feeling it and I am in the zone. Those are the good ones. So for me, more so than creative direction or who I’m in an angle with, I just want to wrestle everybody so send me whatever direction you want. I’m there, but the promos, I like to be super hands-on with that stuff.”

The Universal Championship match was changed to a triple threat following the end of Fastlane. Edge spoke on the dynamics of the story and explained why his character needed to change once Daniel Bryan was added to the story.

“When you find out it’s a triple threat, you go, okay, we both can’t play the underdog hero. That Rocky vibe and both pull that off,” Edge noted. “If you look at the both of us, well, that’s Bryan. That’s his thing. No one does that better than him, and I’d like to think if I could come at it with that little ‘Rated R’ vibe back, that gives me an edge that I think our audience was ready to see.

“I think we’re past, and here’s what’s difficult because we don’t have the audience to really know, but I think they were past this veteran who’s coming back. Can he do it? He’s questioning. They saw that with Randy [Orton], and that worked there. I thought it could continue to work, but I saw that it wasn’t, and then you throw Bryan into the mix, okay, he’s going to corner that market. Roman [Reigns] is cornering his market.

“I have to find a direction to come from here, and to me, it’s neither heel nor babyface. It’s not hero. It’s not villain. It’s Edge, and Edge wants back what he never lost, and the character of Edge was always driven by the championship. Nothing else. It was so simple. Edge wants the title. That’s it. Doesn’t matter who has it. It could have been Batista. It could have been JBL. That’s what Edge wants.”

At last week’s Elimination Chamber event, Edge attacked Roman Reigns and will face him for the Universal Champion at WrestleMania 37. Booker T talked about Edge’s decision to face Reigns at WrestleMania on the latest episode of his podcast, Hall of Fame with Booker T and Brad Gilmore. On the show, Booker mentioned that this match will be something like none other we’ve ever seen.

“One thing you got to look at is this guy is coming from a totally different era,” Booker T said. “This is not just two guys who haven’t worked with each other, been in the ring with each other, it’s two guys coming from two totally different eras. This is Edge’s third era he’s gotten a chance to work with. It’s definitely one of those things where I remember feeling that way saying man, I’ve worked with 3 different generations of wrestlers that have come along. I understand exactly where Edge is right now.”

Booker T noted how Roman is on top of his game during this current run with his character. He feels like Roman is currently on the best run of his career.

“It’s going to be a hard road to hold up, as far as going out there and actually matching up because he honestly doesn’t match up with Roman,” Booker T said. “Roman is a beast man. Roman has proved that he is truly the guy. I really feel that way. Not just because he said it, but because the guy is a top notch worker and top notch entertaining and performer. He knows the play book, he knows what Shakespeare is all about. That’s why everybody right now, come on man, all eyes on Roman.”

Booker T also mentioned the evolution that Reigns has experienced since entering the company. He said he’s now molded himself into the #1 wrestler in the entire company.

“Just two years ago, everybody had no love for this guy,” Booker T continued to say. “So obviously he knows what he’s doing and obviously he knew what he was doing back then. Maybe people wanted something before they were ready to actually give it to him. Right now Roman is truly the guy and I’m looking forward to it.”

As far as a prediction for the match, Booker believes it could go either way. He talked about how Edge winning would be a Cinderella story, but also mentioned that sometimes WWE doesn’t give the fans those moments.

“If I had to bet money on it, it would be a great feel good story if Edge went and pulled it off,” Booker T said. “After retirement, coming back, almost looking like he had to perhaps go back into retirement from getting injured again, come back, wins the Rumble, going to WrestleMania, take on Roman, wins. Cinderella story. Everybody would love to see it but normally the story doesn’t turn out that way in the end in the WWE. I’m looking to see how this thing plays out, hopefully the people will get what they want but a lot of people may want to see Roman.”

WrestleMania 37 will take place Saturday, April 10th and Sunday, April 11th. As of today, the only match that has been announced for the card is Edge vs. Reigns for the Universal Championship.

WWE Hall of Famer Edge will face WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37.

Tonight’s WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view opened with Daniel Bryan defeating Jey Uso, Cesaro, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and King Baron Corbin to earn a title shot from Reigns.

Reigns came out right after the Chamber match and defeated Bryan within minutes, using his Guillotine submission. Reigns celebrated after the match but Edge hit the ring out of nowhere and laid him out with a Spear.

Edge then pointed at the WrestleMania 37 sign and made his decision as the pyro went off.
